I've spent most of my life in rooms where music is being made — as an engineer, a musician, and a coach. Here's a bit of how I got here, and how I work with artists now.
Where the craft got serious
Nashville is an intense place to learn. Everyone around you is at the top of their craft — writers, musicians, and artists there all have incredible focus and dedication. I spent ten years there as an audio engineer, and it changed how I think about music, creativity, and what it means to help an artist find their best. As a young engineer, it was a time of learning arranging, production, communication skills to pull the best out of a performer, and the importance of craft alongside inspiration. I also learned that the best artists aren't the ones with the biggest talent — they're the ones who keep showing up and refining their craft.
Where I learned to pull the best out of people
From there I spent 10 years in Seattle, leading music in a church that treated creativity as a discipline, not a decoration. Arranging and producing 9 to 11 pieces of music every single week across genres from alt-rock to classical, I led musicians ranging from first-timers to seasoned professionals. That's where I really learned to pull the best out of an individual — how to help someone listen, build a sound, and let their particular talent fill out the bones of a piece into something that felt genuinely new. Every week, with a different group of players.
Where your vision becomes real
Now based in Oxford, over the last 13 years I've continued to play live, write and record my own music, which means I know exactly what it feels like to sit with an unfinished idea. I take all these experiences into my work with artists and creatives. There's nothing quite like hearing the seed of an idea — the half-formed lyric, the chord that doesn't quite resolve, the sound someone can describe but not yet make — and then walking alongside them as it becomes something real. This is where you come in — bringing your ideas and vision, and working together with me to describe that more fully, build a plan, and help you achieve what you want.
